Preparing Your Items for Valet Storage Pickup

At My STORAGE Hero, we want your valet storage experience to be smooth and hassle-free! Before your belongings are picked up for storage, please prepare your items as outlined below. If you have included additional services, such as; packing, disassembly, electronic disconnect, handling of over sized or heavy items, etc. — no need to worry — our heroes have you covered. If you have selected the basic storage package at the flat monthly fee, these services are not included in the free pick up and you will need to ensure your storage items are completely ready to be loaded when our heroes arrive.

Use the preparations below as a guide to help you prepare for your pick-up:

ENSURE ALL ITEMS IN YOUR STORAGE SHIPMENT ARE INCLUDED IN THE INVENTORY SUBMITTED ONLINE.

Our heroes are only planning to pick up the items included in the inventory you submitted online. As you are gathering items for storage and find you need to include additional items, be sure to add them to your online inventory prior to your scheduled pick up date. Please note; adding extra items could result in a storage plan increase and may be subject to additional handling fees.

GATHER ALL ITEMS FOR STORAGE IN A DESIGNATED AREA OF YOUR HOME, READY FOR LOADING.

Our heroes have a limited pick up window. To stay on schedule, items need to be gathered in one area of your home. If you have included “large furniture” in your inventory and are unable to gather these items in your designated pick up area — our heroes will move them for you. Just be sure there is a clear pathway to these items and they are emptied and free of clutter. Large furniture is identified as weighing more than 45 lbs. and requiring more than two people to transport, and/or requiring  disassembly.

PACK ALL LOOSE ITEMS INTO BOXES.

Our item pickup options for storage only includes; boxes, bulk items (i.e. luggage, golf bag, large music equipment, bike, etc.) and furniture. If you have miscellaneous items that are not a bulk item or a piece of furniture, then it needs to be secured in a box. Securing loose items in boxes also helps protect your items in transit. Therefore, any items that can fit in a box, should be packed in a box. For an additional charge, you may add packing services to your order. Packing services need to be added before pickup day, so our heroes have the proper materials.

LABEL CONTENTS OF EACH BOX ON THE OUTSIDE TO HELP IDENTIFY THE ITEMS FOR INVENTORY.

For items that are packed in boxes, label the contents of each box on the outside. As part of our services, we create a photo   inventory of your items going into storage and upload the photos to your online account. Properly labeling boxes is a key step in the process, so you can easily identify the contents of each box in your storage inventory.

DISASSEMBLE SMALL & MEDIUM-SIZED FURNITURE.

You are responsible for any disassembly needed for small and medium-sized pieces of furniture. As outlined in the online ordering system, small furniture weighs less than 40 lbs. and can be carried by one person. Medium furniture can be comfortably carried by two people and does not require our assistance with disassembly. Disassembly includes taking apart lamps, taking shelves out of a bookcase, taking legs or feet off, etc. This helps ensure all your items will fit within the storage dimensions of your selected plan and helps protect them in transit. Once disassembled, we recommend any hardware be placed in a sealed bag and then taped to the furniture piece to help prevent the hardware from getting lost.

DO NOT PACK OR INCLUDE ARTICLES LISTED ON THE “ITEMS NOT TO PACK FOR STORAGE” INFO SHEET.

It is important that you review the informational sheet, Items not to Pack for Storage. The items listed should not be included in your storage shipment and our heroes are not able to take them. These articles either propose a potential hazard to your other items while in storage or are not recommended to be stored because of their personal importance and sentimental value.
